SMART BUILDING PRACTICES
A cohesive dialogue between structure and land must sustain in design, continuing an understanding of the language of place and local ecology. We are taught of designing site-specifically, but do we want to understand the site aesthetically or honestly? I believe that the two can work together.
Experientially, we must think beyond the visual. There is a sensory effect that moves beyond the audible in beautiful, truthful music. This music involves cohesive layers that are detailed and complex, yet defined and organized, engaging the all of the senses. Transferred to space, the same qualities of great music are the qualities that I believe define architecture: a sensory experience that provokes thought beyond the visual, igniting and inspiring within spatial organization. We must use our greatest skill of creative critical thinking to push the boundaries of what architecture today should be. We are faced with the exciting challenge of understanding what is responsible and possible as the world grows in population and moves technologically. By designing with function and innovation, architecture has the potential to create awareness, provoke thought, and awaken the senses.
